David claims the first word he uttered was 'action'. He wrote his first script at the age of 14 which was rejected by the BBC - fortunately they finally commissioned a script from him just a few years later. He became the BBC's youngest Director at the age of 23 - this may have been a clerical error but once started there was no stopping him as the enfant terrible went on to direct episodes of the ground breaking international series The Shock of the New which was voted by The Washington Post one of the top fifty tv programmes ever made.
David studied Psychology and Drama at The University of Wales and then post-graduated film and TV at Bristol University. He went on to work as a Director on the flag-ship BBC Arts programme 'Omnibus' which had produced directors such as Ken Russell and John Schlesinger to name but a few. David found himself working with some of the world's greatest living artists - he made a commercial for a work of art by the pop artist Richard Hamilton who designed The Beatles 'White Album'. The commercial is now considered a work of art and is displayed in The Tate Mordern Gallery.
David Has worked on Music Videos with international composer Enya (Lord of the Rings, Thor, Titanic, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Far and Away) and has collaborated with writers from Joanne Harris (Chocolat) to Clive Barker (Hellraiser). The first actress he worked with was Dame Judi Dench since when he has worked with many incredible actors from David Threlfall to David Jason. He has worked for BBC< Granada TV, Time-Life Films, HBO and Irish, French and German TV. He has been nominated for many awards including Bafta's RTS Awards, Soap Awards to name but a few.
David has very special ability to create an amazing look, to visualise feelings through images, exact superb performances, produce edge-of-seat tension, evoke emotion and deliver imaginative design - all with the tremendous energy and entusiasm that creates innovative and award winning drama.
His directing experience ranges from helicopter stunts, high falls and crashes to underwater drama, cgi and 3D shoots to classical performance.
His work has taken him from L.A. to Tbilisi and he's still allowed back in some countries.
